Student Life

Argo is a place for reflection, friendship, relaxation - and challenging work.

That might sound like a contradiction, but we don’t think it is. Artistic and creative work requires space, time, guidance and feedback, and we provide all four in our Summer programs.

Studying

While you are studying at Argo, you can expect around four hours of classes per day. Some classes are in the studio, where you’ll be drawing or painting or weaving or sculpting. Others take place in a classroom, but are not lectures. We firmly believe in learning from our students, so classroom sessions are always lively and full of (sometimes spicy) debate. Outside of your classes, you are free to study, work, relax, read, or swim as you wish. You will have a studio space of your own, and we encourage students to explore their own projects.

At the end of the program, you’ll exhibit your work in a group show at a local gallery. We’ll help you prepare your work for the show, so if it’s your first time exhibiting, don’t worry.

Accommodation

Accommodation will be provided for you, and is included in the cost of your program. We work with local hotels to provide simple but beautiful private rooms for all of our students.

We’ll confirm exactly where you’ll be staying soon, so watch this space.

Eating

Your accommodation will have a kitchen, so you can prepare simple meals. Small local shops and larger supermarkets are nearby, so you can buy all the tasty fresh ingredients you need.

You won’t need to cook for yourself all the time, though. Greece is blessed with (literally) millions of tavernas - small, local restaurants serving simple, delicious food for a very reasonable price. (This is the real reason Matt and Sara moved back to Greece, but shhh). If you find yourself researching while sipping coffee in a sidewalk cafe along the waterfront, well, we might just see you there.

Hanging Out

Argo is a community.

And we really mean that.

We’ve been friends with everyone in our faculty for years (in some cases, decades). One of the best things about our Summer Program is the opportunity to cook meals together, learn from each other, laugh with each other, and hang out deep into the night discussing obscure philosophers. As a student, you’ll be a part of that (if you want to be).

Argo Summer Programs have a fairly packed social schedule. On Fridays, there is a weekly shared meal and critique session, we get together to watch a movie on Wednesdays, and students often meet up on other days to cook together and explore the local scene.

Support and Inclusion

Let’s put it bluntly - we strive to ensure Argo is a safe space for everyone. We have a zero-tolerance policy on racism, sexism, anti-LGBTQIA+ views, and generally acting without respect for your classmates, teachers, or anyone else.

We’re painfully aware of the economic and racial disparity in the study abroad industry, and are trying our hardest to address it. We welcome applications from everyone - whether you are queer, neurodiverse, not able-bodied, and whatever your cultural background. And if you don’t think you can afford to study with us, please apply for a scholarship.

We also realize that studying abroad can be stressful, especially if you haven’t lived abroad before. Most of our staff have experience living outside their home country, so we’re here to support you if you have any logistical questions. Our staff also includes a dedicated student coordinator - someone who is there just to help you enjoy your time with Argo. They are always available for you if you have any problems, concerns, or troubles.
